Each year, a small village that has greatly displeased the god Neptune must sacrifice the most beautiful girl in the village to a terrifying sea monster. Fearing such a fate, Phillida and Gallathea each escape into the nearby forest in disguise as boys, and begin to fall in love with one another, neither one knowing the other is a girl. But what to love...or the Gods of Love...is impossible?
