Participants will learn a brief overview of the purpose and use of gobos in live entertainment. They will then make their own gobo in a hands on workshop using Metal sheeting and nails to etch in a design. The projects will be soaked in solution overnight and can be picked up from the conference check in table the next day.

In this project, students are designers of wedding apparel. Students work through the design process from consultation to actualization in groups in one workshop. The "client" is a famous person or character. Once the consultation is complete, they dress the client from head to foot. The “attire” is constructed from paper and tape, like a bridal shower game. The winning group will receive a prize!

Solving the quandary of what to do when the script simply states “A fight ensues” should involve more than just a director and their actors. Stage combat can impact (not literally, e hope) almost every aspect of a production, including set, lights, costumes, and props. We will address what designers, producers, stage managers, and other staff must consider when a fight is part of their show. This workshop includes safe weapon show-and-tell, a demonstration of stage combat techniques, and perhaps the opportunity to try a few moves yourself.
